Most US traffic is served well from three places. Ashburn and New York cover the Northeast and have the shortest hops to Europe. Dallas and Chicago sit in the middle and keep round trips to both coasts roughly even. Los Angeles, Silicon Valley and Seattle face the Pacific and are the natural choice for West Coast users or anyone with customers in Asia.
The secondary markets are worth a look as well. Atlanta, Miami, Denver, Phoenix and Detroit often have the same CPU and memory at the same price, with less competition for the popular configurations.
Because billing is per server per month, a second machine in another region costs exactly what the first one did. Pair an East Coast server with a West or central one, replicate your database between them, and a regional outage stops being a business problem.
The lowest price in the US today is $44 a month. Sort this page by price to see which city it is in.
A dedicated server is a physical machine, so it stays where it is. To change cities, order a server in the new location, copy your data across, then cancel the old one at the end of its month.
Pick a machine, choose your OS at checkout and pay for the first month. No setup contract, no annual lock-in.
